For my 12th grade internship, I'm going to the Acne Spot/Taylor'd Skin Bar in San Marcos to focus on the dermatology aspects from acne to general skin care.
My mentor is Nicole Bennett and she is the current owner as well as one of the estheticians at the Acne Spot. They, along with the other estheticians, split their clients into three sections of the space to either focus on clinical acne treatments, facials, as well as reside in a barbershop-styled bar for makeup and additional facials. It's a little of cosmetic and dermatology and I'm excited to work with them and hopefully learn new things about my skin. For my project, my mentor and I discussed making a before and after look book to display in their waiting room as well as assisting in going paperless in their office so it'll be very busy in the digital department and I may need to borrow a camera to get the resolution and detail I need for good photos. As for daily responsibilities, I will go through front desk training, assisting the team with their clients and smaller tasks, and I'll be doing more visual or manual work with either light cleaning (laundry), assisting estheticians in either watching or receiving treatments (YUH), and setting up/closing treatment rooms. I'm most excited to be more hands-on with my internship experience and just learning how to communicate with people regarding something that they may be self-conscious about and possibly learning things about my skin or even receiving some treatments on the side. The staff are so nice so I want to do my best and leave my mark on the space.
