The Main Project |

For the Human Food Chain Project, we had to read from Michael Pollan's Omnivore's Dilemma for Humanities, create a documentary for Digital Arts, and learn about the many things included in the process of foods and the food themselves (i.e. processed foods) as well as do the side project for the periodic table. We learned that people all eat differently, whether it's because of availability, cost, tradition, family, etc. And we learned to use Final Cut Pro in Digital Arts for the documentary.
In the beginning of the project we had to get into groups of four, with the roles of director, camera person, editor, and writer. My role was Director (T^T) and, unfortunately, when I got with my group, our first writer switched to another group and then our second writer moved to a different school. So we were only a group of three. My teammates were Noah and Caleb, not what I expected but I liked my group.
The documentary was separated into chapters, one for each group, and the topic we chose was Food Choices. We went on a couple field trips and recorded multiple interviews with various people, even though some of the interviews were not used for the final edit for our chapter. In Humanities, we researched about the conditions/treatment of crops, animals, as well as farm workers. And in Math/Science, we learned more about the nutrients and other things in plants as well as attempt soil and sugar scientific investigations and learn about our nutrition. My group try to see whether organic or nonorganic seeds grew faster in the same conditions/care for the soil and tried to make rock candy with two different sugars. Stained Glass Stetch |
For the Exhibition, the 8th Grade were separated into two huge groups. One group was like a food sample group and the group I was in was the Industrial/Processed/Natural Food Choices/Groups. The other group's job was to create healthy and/or local foods for the audience to try by buying tickets while we were supposed to choose both a number of natural and industrial/processed food for the audience to choose from and attain information from the groups. In our group, we were given the choice of booths/topics to participate in and I got Seasons, along with Hannah, Mariah, Pua, and Dylan. We needed to inform the audience about the different times certain crops are grown as well as the natural foods they chose and the importance of seasons, we did this by making a guessing game where the prize was a free ticket to use for the other group's display.
Our classes also tried to do stain glass art pieces to sell during the exhibition. |
